When I went to rinse out the cup - there was an unremovable "film" left behind where the Listerine had been - as if it had etched the plastic so that's not a good thing to be soaking your trays in for any length of time if it can do that to hard plastic. Went back & reread the care instructions that came with the trays & it is not advised. But that may be to promote their own cleaner.
This set is absolutely crystal clear so far & I haven't been using anything to clean them at all besides a drop or two of antibacterial dish soap in the soaking water during breakfast so guess I won't try that again.
In comparison the next set actually appears less clear than the set I'm still wearing. Am wondering if the factory's disinfectant process leaves them appearing less than crystal clear at first. Will have to pay attention to see if it clears up once they've been rinsed & worn.
This show where I began & how I should end up if all goes according to plan:

Much improved.

Hey SD ---
I'll e-mail you details privately.
Regarding the buttons - neither you or your doctor will know exactly which teeth will have the buttons until the treatment plan is finalized by Invisalign with your doctor's input. Unfortunately, this doesn't happen until AFTER you've committed to the treatment.
It's a conundrum, I realize - you'd like this information before you "sign your teeth away", but it's the only way it can be done.
There've been others at the forum who've said that even though their attachments are quite obvious to themselves & even on front teeth, other people don't even notice. They are only small "bumps" - some are even attached on the inner surfaces of teeth - whatever is needed to move that individual tooth.
Also - some buttons aren't added until partway through the treatment. Mine just happened to be needed right from day one.
I'm really surprised I didn't have to have more - you can see how much some of my crooked/crowded teeth need to change position in my before/after pics!
There's a really informative video on Invisalign's manufacturing process & how the technology is applied for the treatment plan to be decided upon. You can download it here (need QuickTime):

I'll post that link at the forum, too.

Hi Anne,
Congrats on starting your second set. I'll be starting my second ones tomorrow night.
The first set went great. I had the pain/soreness the first few days like everyone else mentioned, but then I've gotten very used to them. I'm almost to the point where I don't even notice them anymore.
I just got back from Miami, FL (I live in Ohio) where I conducted some computer training sessions for local school teachers. I wore my aligners the whole time and didn't have any trouble with speech or people noticing them. Everyone I tell about them can't even notice them, even after they know they're there!
One thing about the Listerine soak, my ortho told me this is an absolute no-no. Apparently, the Listerine (as well anything else containing mint, which seems strange) can damage the plastic. I only use a tooth brush with cold water and occasionally some tooth paste to clean them. My first set is still quite clear, and I never had the white film build up people complain about. My guess is because I only drink water with them in.

Hey Eric ---
Hmmmmm - living in Ohio - teaching assignment in Miami...tough assignment for February, huh? ;)
I'm with you on the toothbrush/water maintenance - am wondering if this "whitish film" some are finding on their trays is actually etching from products that are actually too powerful & end up doing more harm than good?
Thanks for tuning in - I'm about to say goodbye to my #1 set - it's been fun, but...
time for a change...oh yes!
Will be interested to how it goes for you, too ---
Anne
